“Ben Gibbard Broke My Heart” is a song I wrote a few years ago, when the titular Benjamin Gibbard and his fellow bandmates of The Postal Service, Jenny Lewis and Dntel, began teasing something mysterious on all their social media accounts, as well as The Postal Service’s. A lot of fans, including myself, got very excited at the idea of a possible reunion. So the days and weeks passed, and after all that buildup- we were treated to a zoom call to encourage voting (which you should do!!!) and a (very nice) live album. It wasn’t the big announcement of new music that we were all hoping for unfortunately. It was hard not to be disappointed, Give Up being one of my favorite albums ever, but there is always a silver lining! In this case, it inspired me to write a song. “Ben Gibbard Broke My Heart” is a fun and punchy lo-fi indie rock jam about the frustrations of a young Postal Service super-fan having their heart broken by expectations, and how they (I) channeled those frustrations into song. This one is a real banger, and I’ve been sitting on it for quite some time now, I really hope you’ll give it a listen and enjoy it! :)
p.s. - every second of this song was written and recorded in nothing but good fun, I mean absolutely no offense and bear zero ill-will to anyone over at The Postal Service. no hard feelings from me personally, will always love and appreciate all of the wonderful work the three of you have contributed to the musical world, your art will undoubtedly live beyond any of us <3 -uncle joe
